Email Literacy in Higher Education Institutions: A Case Study on Student-Instructor Email Communication at Dhofar University in Oman

Email is one of the means via which students in higher education institutions (HEIs) liaise with instructors to enquire about course materials, assignments, upcoming assessments and seek advice on personal or academic matters. The current study an attempt investigate student-instructor email communication focusing problematic aspects students’ emails that affect process communication. based analysis one-hundred messages composed sent by undergraduate their at Dhofar University Oman. It concluded student are often characterized lack etiquette rules, linguistic inaccuracies traits texting instant messaging mediums. Several messages, for instance, proper layout contain grammar, spelling punctuation mistakes, indicating reviewing before sending them teachers does not take place. In addition, informal features such as use vocabulary, excessive marks, non-standard spelling, emojis emoticons, reflect unawareness formality, professionalism university setting etiquette, noticeable messages. Therefore, pedagogical intervention respect acquisition skills required writing perceiving recommended. Education guidance conventions governing can help communicate more effectively professionally HEIs, will promote only decent practices but also future employability opportunities.
